The Hextom Alternative With Auto-Revert, AI Content, and Image Manager

Honest first: Hextom Bulk Product Edit has been on the Shopify App Store since October 5, 2015 — that's 10 years and 1,062 reviews (4.9★). BulkEditly launched May 14, 2026.

We're not pretending to be a more mature tool. We are arguing that the four features we have and Hextom doesn't — auto-revert, AI content generation, image manager, and Google Shopping feed editing — change the workflow enough to be worth a 14-day side-by-side trial.

Hextom is the dominant bulk-edit app on the Shopify App Store by install count and tenure. A 5-star Hextom review reads: "Tasks that used to take hours now take minutes." That's accurate. If you're already on Hextom and the workflow works, this page isn't telling you to switch — it's telling you what changes if you do.

The specific case this page is written for: you've outgrown Hextom's feature set. You run flash sales and want them to end themselves. You manage product images in bulk and Hextom doesn't have an image manager. You sell on Google Shopping and want to edit feed fields directly. Or you want AI-generated SEO titles without copy-pasting into ChatGPT.

When Hextom is the right tool

Stay with Hextom if your workflow fits any of these:

When Hextom is the wrong tool

Consider switching if any of these match your last quarter:

Four things BulkEditly does that Hextom can't

1. Auto-revert scheduled edits

Schedule a 20% price drop for Friday at 9 AM. Set a revert date for Monday at 9 AM. The sale ends itself. Hextom supports the first half (the scheduled drop). It doesn't support the second half (the automatic restore) as a single operation. To get the same outcome in Hextom you'd schedule a second job that re-applies the original prices — which requires you to have captured those original prices somewhere, and to remember to schedule the restore. 2. AI content generation (Beta)

Generate SEO titles (60 chars), meta descriptions (155 chars), product descriptions (2-3 paragraphs), and image alt text — at scale. Configure tone (professional, casual, persuasive, minimalist), target keywords, length, and style. Review every output before applying; edit any that need adjustment. Quality scoring shows character counts and red/green badges so you can flag short or off-target outputs before they go live. Available on Growth (100 generations/mo) and Pro (1,000/mo). 3. Image manager (8 operations)

Bulk set alt text with template variables like {title} - {vendor}. Find and replace text in alt across thousands of products. Reorder images via drag-and-drop. Set the featured image for a filtered set. Detect and delete duplicate images. Add images from URL. None of this exists in Hextom. Available on Pro.

4. Google Shopping feed editor

12 dedicated feed fields, including Google Product Category (with searchable 6,000-category taxonomy), Age Group, Gender, Color, Size, Material, Pattern, and GTIN. Feed-readiness audit flags missing fields. Export filtered feeds in Google's exact format. Hextom edits metafields but doesn't have a Google Shopping-specific surface. Available on Pro.

Pricing comparison

At entry ($9 vs $9.99): essentially tied on price. You're choosing on features. BulkEditly Starter adds auto-revert and a 60-day undo history; Hextom Basic gives you 60-day backup but no auto-revert.

At mid-tier ($19 vs $19.99): essentially tied on price. BulkEditly Growth adds AI content (100/mo), metafield editor with 21 typed fields, variant editor (SKU/barcode/weight), duplicate detector, and 90-day undo. Hextom Pro at the same price adds scheduling (which BulkEditly has at Starter), 5K products/task, and 90-day backup. The feature set diverges; the cost is the same.

At top tier ($79 vs $49.99): Hextom wins on price alone. BulkEditly Pro is $79/mo for unlimited products and the full feature set (image manager, Google Shopping, inventory sync, AI 1,000/mo, 180-day undo). Hextom Advanced is $49.99/mo for 50K products/task without those features. If you need image manager + Google Shopping + AI at scale, the price difference is the cost of having them in one tool.

What Hextom still does better than us

An honest concession.

Hextom has been live since 2015 and edits Orders, Customers, and Collections — not just Products. If you bulk-edit Order data weekly, install Hextom, not us. We're focused on Product and Collection editing with deeper safety features (auto-revert, image manager, AI). Different lanes.

When you should not switch

If you're using Hextom to bulk-edit Orders or Customer data, stay. We don't do that. If you're using it for Products and wishing it had AI, images, or auto-revert, give us a try.

Don't switch for $0.99/month at entry — the cost of re-learning a new UI is higher than that. Switch for the workflow change.

How to try BulkEditly without leaving Hextom

  1. Install BulkEditly Free. Setup is ~30 seconds. Products sync automatically.
  2. Pick a flash sale you'd normally schedule in Hextom. Schedule the same edit in BulkEditly with auto-revert on. Compare the operational feel.
  3. Try one image bulk operation. Set alt text on 10 products using a template variable. This isn't possible in Hextom.
  4. Run an AI generation on 5 products (Growth tier 7-day trial). See whether the output is usable for your catalog.
  5. Keep both apps installed for 14 days, then decide.

FAQ

Does BulkEditly edit Orders or Customers like Hextom does? No. BulkEditly edits products, variants, collections, metafields, and images. We don't touch Orders or Customer records. If you bulk-edit Orders or Customer profiles weekly, Hextom is the right tool and we'd rather you stay there than churn after a week.

How do I migrate my Hextom scheduled edits? Scheduled edits don't migrate between apps. The simplest path is to recreate any active schedules in BulkEditly using the same parameters — the schedule UI is similar enough that it usually takes a minute per task. Active Hextom schedules will keep running until you remove them, so there's no rush.

Is auto-revert the same as "schedule then undo manually"? No. Hextom keeps a backup window (60-180 days depending on tier) that lets you manually undo a past edit. BulkEditly's auto-revert is a scheduled forward operation: at the time you set, the edit reverses itself automatically. For flash sales that end at midnight, that's the difference between a calm Sunday and a Sunday-night alarm clock.

Can I keep both apps installed? Yes, and we recommend it during the 14-day trial period. They read from the same Shopify catalog and don't conflict. Use Hextom for Order/Customer edits and BulkEditly for everything else, or run parallel bulk edits in each to compare the workflows.

What if Hextom adds auto-revert? They might. They're a 10-year, 20-app developer with the engineering to add it. The honest answer: if Hextom ships auto-revert and you only use Hextom for Products, the price difference at entry ($9 vs $9.99) is the only remaining wedge. Our bet is that auto-revert, image manager, AI content, and Google Shopping together — not any one of them — is the bundle they won't fully replicate.
